Isabella Khairiah Hadid came into the world on October 9, 1996, in Washington, D.C. Her dad, Mohamed Hadid, is a real estate developer from Palestine–Jordan, while her mom, Yolanda Hadid (formerly known as Yolanda van den Herik), is a former Dutch model.
She traces her ancestry back to Zahir al-Umar, who ruled northern Palestine in the 1700s, through her father’s side. Isabella has two famous siblings in the modeling world, an older sister named Gigi and a younger brother named Anwar.
There are also two half-sisters from her father’s previous marriage, Marielle and Alana. The family grew up on a ranch in Santa Barbara, California, but later moved to Beverly Hills.
During her teenage years, Isabella was passionate about horseback riding and had aspirations of participating in the 2016 Summer Olympics.
She focused on equitation, even though it’s not an Olympic event. In 2012, she, her mother, and her brother were all diagnosed with Chronic Lyme disease.
After completing her studies at Malibu High School in 2014, Isabella headed to New York City to learn photography at the Parsons School of Design.
She paused her studies to dedicate herself to her modeling career, but she’s considering returning to school in the future, especially to explore fashion photography. Apart from her modeling ambitions, she’s also interested in pursuing acting.
Hadid started her modeling journey at the age of sixteen, kicking off with a commercial gig for Flynn Skye.
She ventured into various modeling projects, including Lesa Amoore’s “The Swan Settings,” where she shared the spotlight with actor Ben Barnes, and Holly Copeland’s “Smoking Hot.”
Gigi also showcased Hanna Hayes’ Fall/Winter 2013 Collection and took part in campaigns for Chrome Hearts, which happens to be the family brand of her close friend, Jesse Jo Stark.
On July 22, 2014, Hadid got into trouble when she was arrested for driving under the influence. This led to her losing her driver’s license for a year and receiving six months of probation. Additionally, she was required to do 25 hours of community service and attend 20 hours of meetings with Alcoholics Anonymous.
From April 2015 until August 2019, Hadid and The Weeknd, a Canadian singer-songwriter, were in a sometimes-on, sometimes-off romantic relationship. She even appeared in his music video for the song “In the Night” in December 2015. Their relationship attracted a lot of attention from the media and was a frequent topic of gossip in magazines.
Moving forward, in July 2020, Hadid began a new relationship with Marc Kalman, an art director. They didn’t publicly announce their relationship until July 8, 2021, during her presence at both Paris Fashion Week and the Cannes Film Festival. However, by July 2023, news broke that the couple had decided to end their relationship sometime in the spring, after being together for three years.
